Shiffman confirms coaching staff for biggest ever season in Women’s Football in NZ
2023 will focus on the once in a lifetime event of the Women’s World Cup in NZ, on a more local stage it’s also a massive season for the Women’s NRFL First Team and Reserves as they suit up for a 4th straight season in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League and the club with Ryan at the helm are excited about seeing the team compete for a top 4 spot and national league honours.
Joining Ryan’s backroom staff is Hollie Leona who picks up the role as attack coach and First Team Assistant Coach as she continues to add to an impressive coaching CV, she aims to combine her coaching role with playing.
Mark Thompson returns to the team, this time taking up the role of Goalkeeper coach, Mark’s previously worked with the team and is highly respected in the group.
Returning from 2022 is First Team Assistant and Midfield coach Ian Davidson, who will also be returning as the main man in the Reserves dugout. Ian brings his calm and tactical approach to the squad which is highly valued.
Alongside him is Brendon Smith who resumes his very valuable role as Assistant Coach to both squads
Alejo Perez Leguizamon continues in his 2022 role heading up the players physical wellbeing, a highly respected individual in his field and it goes without saying the team love working with him.
Callum McKenzie is the final returnee from 2022, he heads up the defensive unit as a First Team Assistant Coach – his infectious energy for coaching and working with the Ponies makes him a good fit in this team.
Of course, Ryan Shiffman leads the group, in his 6th season as Women’s First Team coach – his dedication to improving the team both tactically and physically is unmatched and as a club we are excited to retain the services of one of the most talented coaches in Auckland.
This team gets stronger every year and this year is no different. I believe both the First team and Reserves have the potential to push for top spots in their respective leagues, while also having our eyes on earning a National League spot and thinking about what that would mean for our Club. Should be an exciting season and at least we know we will have fun doing it, like we do every year.
