Senior

The Senior side of the Club caters for men and women from the age of 18 all the way up to the 40+ age group. Talented younger players may also play up in our elite senior squads.

Our main home is Michaels Ave Reserve which is located on one of Ellerslie’s most sought after streets – Michaels Ave. We share our ground with both Ellerslie Cricket in the Summer and the YMCA Ellerslie all year round. We have several other fields nearby that teams may find themselves playing at for a home game due to the ever increasing size of both the Senior and Junior/Youth divisions of the club. These are Simson Reserve, Ngahue Reserve, Liston Park and a couple of good quality fields at Pt England Reserve.

Michaels Ave is also currently undergoing a series of upgrades to its sporting facilities, to complement our world class FIFA approved artificial football turf. Once all three stages of the upgrade have been completed Ellerslie AFC will have access to facilities befitting a club of our size and members will be able to enjoy football in a great environment.

Ellerslie AFC has a reputation for being a "community club" (as we encourage participation at all levels rather than necessarily always seeking excellence), the club is also focused on developing our Junior/Youth division by employing a Director of Football (part-time) and a Coaching Director (full time). This means talented youngsters are spotted and given every chance to progress and have a future in the game we love. Importantly, this process doesn’t put at risk the social player who is still a very important component of life at Ellerslie AFC.

Our coaching and development pathway has helped develop some players who are truly talented (including some playing at a professional level, ISPS Handa Premiership and New Zealand Youth International level). You can check out some of these players in our "The Stable" section.

There are always more coming through from our talented under 19 and under 17 teams. We also compete annually at the Napier U19’s tournament, where we have finished in the top 4, in 2008 and 2014, and made the last 8 in 2009 and 2015 and we were extremely proud to win our maiden title in 2017.

In recent times our Girls and Women’s programme has shone through with our Women’s team getting promoted back into the NRFL Premier League in 2020 and our Napier U19’s Women’s team recording two semi-finals and a final in their three years at the tournament.
