Ellerslie AFC are excited to announce the appointment of Hollie Leona to the role of Female Football Development Manager – this is a new role at EAFC and it’s appropriate to have Hollie who has been at the forefront of Women’s Football at the club.  Hollie has been at Ellerslie AFC since 2003 when she first played for the club, and she was part of the Pukeko’s in that first season.  Since then Hollie has played all through the grades and this season she made her 50th appearance in the Women’s First Team and played in every game in the Women’s National League campaign.  On the coaching side she has worked in the NRFL Youth space for a number of years now.  In short there is no-one more suited to this role than Hollie!

“The appointment of Hollie Leona to the role of Football Development Manager focussing on the female side of the club is a significant milestone for the organisation. Ellerslie AFC has been steadily increasing its profile in the female footballing space and Hollie’s appointment is another major step in growing this side of the club both in the number of female players involved in the sport and the quality of the players Ellerslie produces. This new role also aligns with the club’s commitment to the Gender Equity Charter, fostering an inclusive environment for girls and women at Ellerslie AFC. The club are working in partnership with the Northern Region Federation to develop and implement initiatives to ensure our club continues to treat our members equitably and provide opportunities for females to develop at our club.” Fred de Jong (Director of Football and President – Ellerslie AFC)

Hollie brings a lot of experience to this role as she has worked in a number of roles in the field of sport over the last 3 years, starting with us as a Social Media manager, before picking up a Club Manager role with Ellerslie Cricket, she then moved into our Operations Team as she spent the last 18 months as our Football Operations Manager with a short secondment to FIFA to work as a Team Base Liaison for Argentina during the Women’s World Cup.

"I'm excited to start my new role with Ellerslie AFC and look forward to dedicating my time to developing the girls space. Having played and coached at Ellerslie for a number of years, this Club and its members mean a great deal to me so to be involved in the development of our female footballers is really special. The female game continues to grow and I'm thrilled to be a part of the positive direction Ellerslie is moving in. Bring on 2024!" Hollie Leona (Female Football Development Manager – Ellerslie AFC)

Hollie currently holds a C-Licence and has been accepted into a B-Licence course starting shortly.

We can’t wait to see Hollie at work on the field with our female members as we look to build on the success of the Women’s World Cup.
