Coach Development & Referee Courses

The Club is dedicated to assisting with coach development which will allow our coaches to better their own coaching knowledge and skills. We take coach education very seriously and believe that better coaches help to develop better players, we strongly encourage coaches to attend courses and workshops run by both AFF and NZF.  The club also runs a series of informal coaching workshops at Michaels Ave at no cost.

The Coaches & Managers meetings will be held on Wednesday 18th March 2020 in the upstairs Clubrooms at Michaels Avenue Reserve.  The Football Development team will provide information in preparation of the season.  Team gear bags can be collected after the meeting from the hub office by the turf field.

  • Junior Coaches meeting @ 6.30pm (Under 6 - Under 9 teams, excluding U9 Red, Black & Gold teams)
  • Youth Coaches meeting @ 7.30pm (Under 10 - Under 17 teams, including U9 Red, Black & Gold teams)

From the recent club survey, the club received feedback that more support was needed in the coaching support area, with some parents nominated to being the coach for a team, having little knowledge or confidence to do this.  With that in mind, Fred de Jong and Ryan Shiffman have planned the following free workshops and development opportunities for coaches in the 2020 season.

Level 1 - Getting started course (coaches only need to attend one night)

  • Wednesday 25th March from 6.45pm - 8.15pm
  • Monday 30th March from 6.45pm - 8.15pm

Age Appropriate Sessions

  • Wednesday 1st April from 6.30pm - 8.15pm

Game Day management

  • Wednesday 6th May from 6.45pm - 8.00pm

Team structure and Tactics

  • Monday 11th May from 6.45pm - 8.00pm

Mid-Season Coaches workshop

  • Wednesday 24th June from 6.45pm - 8.00pm

Fred and Ryan will also host an Open day session that provides an opportunity for coaches to come down and watch a session in motion, explaining what is happening and why those decisions are being made.  They will also be available on Saturdays at Michaels Avenue on game days to offer guidance and support as needed.

There is also the option to attend courses run by AFF and NZF for those seeking more formal coach education.  These courses do come at a cost. (The club can provide financial support for some courses)

If you would like to attend an external coaching course, please contact our Director of Football to make a booking, or to discuss which course would be applicable.

      COMMUNITY REFEREES (CR's)

The Club usually organises an in-house CR course once a season if there are sufficient participants.  It runs over two nights (usually Wednesdays) in the clubrooms at Michaels Avenue Reserve for about 3 hours each night. Both nights must be attended to gain CR accreditation.  These courses provide parents and players with a base general knowledge of the FIFA Laws of the Game, giving them the confidence to referee matches on the weekend.  The course cost is about $95.00 and the club subsides half of this for the participant.

To register your interest to attend a CR or other referee course - please contact Kelly Bolus

We can also advise of places on courses at other venues if we don't have sufficient registrations to run an in-house course.

Further options for referee development to become a Level 1 or higher referee are available as well.
